First Day
The girls started preschool yesterday. Cue the parents acting all excited when kids are around and then freaking out just a little bit when they are not in the room.
As you can see, Lexi and Zara were super excited. We dropped them off and they rushed to start playing and forgot all about us. I think it helped that we visited a few times so the girls were familiar with where their favorite toys ("jobs") are. Lexi told me a few times in the last week that she couldn't wait to play with the tongs at school again. When I picked them up a few hours later, they were happy until Zara started crying that she didn't want to leave. The teachers reported that they did great and were "great citizens". I guess they didn't swat them in the face or throw their cups across the room like they do at home :) Whew.
We talked about going to school a lot in the last few weeks leading up to it. They were mostly excited, but a little nervous. Lots of, "I will be ok because my sissy is there" and "if I need help, the teacher will help me." The girls told me that Lexi sat on Zara's lap during circle time because I wasn't there. Lexi is the mama's girl for sure and so lucky to have Zara. How much fun would it be to go to school with your twin sister?
Lexi and Zara are going to a Montessori preschool in our neighborhood two full days and one morning each week. Tomorrow is their first full day so I packed my first school lunches tonight! Hopefully all goes well tomorrow at school.

I get asked pretty often how I kept my girls on the same feeding/sleeping schedule when they were babes. I did keep a spreadsheet (because I'm anal like that) and want to share it here for reference.

Fighting Over Clothes
Growing up with two sisters, I had my fair share of fights over clothes. I would "borrow" my older sisters clothes without asking when she was a cool high schooler. My little sister "borrowed" my clothes and sometimes we actually shared I think.
Lexi and Zara have a collective closet, nothing belongs to one or the other. They do have a couple pairs of shoes in different colors/sizes because Zara's feet are a tad bit smaller. Recently, they each developed a few favorites that they end up wearing all the time. Lexi's two favorites "the grey dress" and "my favorite dress". She wants to wear these two dresses every day. She only likes to wear dresses, no pants. I make them both wear leggings under dresses for warmth. Zara likes pants and loves "the kitty shirt" and "the whale shirt" and also likes dresses, but is not so opinionated about clothes. Yet.
Yesterday with a mischievous twinkle in her eye Zara chose to wear Lexi's favorite dress. She had never worn this dress before because Lexi wears it anytime its clean. Lexi was already dressed in something else she picked out so I helped Zara put it on. Lexi saw it immediately and screamed, "that's my FAVORITE dress". Zara's smiles and tells her, "Its stuck on ME now!" Lexi got over it, but I'm still chuckling about it. I'm sure I will not be chuckling when this is still happening in middle school.

The Finished Kitchen
This project is hands-down both the cheapest and the most time consuming in our house to date. As much time as I spent removing that awful wallpaper in the dining room, the kitchen takes the cake (but not for long because I love cake...)
Since the last post about painting the kitchen, we (my hot hubby) stained the island and command station and installed all the cabinet hardware. It was all done before Christmas and we have been enjoying and loving it for a while now. The blog is playing catch-up as usual.
We have only spent about $400 total on the kitchen so far (light fixture, faucet, paint, stain), but it has been at least a hundred hours of labor, probably a lot more. Obviously, I'm not counting refinishing the wood floors in that number because that was practically the whole downstairs, not just the kitchen. Eventually we will replace the ancient oven with my dream double ovens, but for now it works ok so we will throw the cash into one of the other 3,914 projects we have on our list!
