A&Z are potty-trained, drink out of an open cup, go to school and the list of "big kid" milestones goes on and on. The last hold-out was the cribs. We were proud members of the "cribs for life" club because we didn't want to mess with the great sleepers we have trained. The girls have been able to climb out for several months now, but with a few warnings and consequences, they were staying in their cribs. Still, it just felt like time so we took the sides off of the cribs this weekend.
They picked out new bedding at the store (ladybugs for Lexi and owls for Zara) and are super excited to be in beds. Tonight is the third night and they are doing great, no issues with staying in bed. I'm wondering if this good luck will last? Its so nice to be able to snuggle with them when we are giving goodnight kisses and singing bedtime songs.

Zara and Lexi love Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (a cartoon, in case you don't speak toddler) so we threw them a Mickey Mouse 3rd birthday bash! I spent way too much time planning the party, but I love doing it. On the day of the party we had gorgeous sunny weather and a bunch of friends and family to celebrate with us. It doesn't get any better than that.
We had hot dogs and brats for lunch along with pasta salad, fruit salad, veggies with dip and chips. For dessert, an awesome cake, cookies and more. I know all the parents were loving me for serving their kids cake and cookies followed up with a favor box that also had cookies and candy in it. A few of them repaid me by putting candy in the gifts that the girls opened later. Only once a year, but not really.

My sister Lydia and her family came to visit last weekend for the birthday party. While they were here we took advantage of the amazing weather and checked out the Portland Rose Garden and Children's Park down the hill. We love it when they come to visit and the cousins always have a great time.
Apparently the girls witnessed Ben (the little guy) peeing with the door open. The day after they left Lexi asked me, "what's that cylinder on Ben's bum?" Yup, she knows her shapes. After I explained that one, she went on and on about how concerned she was that he was peeing standing up when he should be sitting down. After I explained that boys stand up, we had to go through the list of every male she knows and whether they stand up or not. Fun times.

The girls are at that super eager "do everything myself" stage so I decided to put it to good use and try strawberry picking again this year. It was a hit and they are begging to go back! We didn't last too long, but we picked 5 lbs, not counting the pound that Lexi ate on the field straight from the patch. Zara fell and dumped her bucket of berries in a big mud puddle, but its not like they weren't already dirty. We made jam later that day and polished off the rest of the berries before dinner.
